For basketball enthusiasts such as myself, Quicken Loans Arena (The Q) is the place to see Cleveland Cavalier home games.  But after basketball season is over, and melancholic depression descends upon die-hard fans as they await the start of summer league and preseason basketball, The Q takes on a new purpose. The arena hosts a fun list of concerts and special events, providing much-needed diversion for suffering basketball fans.

Aside from being home to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Lake Erie Monsters, Cleveland Crush, and Cleveland Gladiators, the Q has tons of fun events planned for the upcoming months. Events scheduled for September include:

  • PNC Cleveland Praisefest – September 11th
  • WWE Monday Night Raw – September 19th
  • Foo Fighters Concert – September 20th
  • Cleveland Crush vs. Baltimore Charm – September 23rd
  • Disney On Ice: Mickey and Minnie’s Magical Journey – September 29th  & 30th

Ever since Billy Joel performed the first-ever concert in The Q in 1994, music performances have been wowing fans of a variety of genres — from Katy Perry all the way to Kid Cudi. And anticipation is growing for the long awaited Michael Jackson: THE IMMORTAL World Tour show by Cirque du Soleil at The Q in July of 2012.

History of The Q

Designed by architect Ellerbe Becket, Quicken Loans Arena employs award-winning chef Michael Symon to contribute menu items to be prepared by foodservice firm Aramark. The Q underwent extensive renovations in 2005, and seats over 20,000 spectators and has 92 luxury suites.

As part of the Gateway Project, which helps revitalize downtown Cleveland, The Q has been home to the Mid-American Conference (MAC) men’s basketball tournament since 2000.

Formerly known as Gund Arena (1994-2005), past tenants of The Q include:

  • Cleveland Rockers (WNBA) – 1997 – 2003
  • Cleveland Barons (AHL) – 2001-2006
  • Cleveland Lumberjacks (IHL) – 1994 – 2001

Whether you are a sports fanatic, love attending live concerts, monster truck rallies, or Cirque du Soleil, Quicken Loans Arena has an event for you.  The full list of events for 2011 along with ticket pricing and information can be found on the events page of The Q arena.
